Enjoying an innocent night out with her husband and friends is the only thing on her mind until a chance meeting with blue eyes.  The encounter sets off a turmoil of erotic thoughts of guilty sin before she breaks free of their hold and leaves with her husband.  Escape is not so easy once she closes her eyes, only to realize that those blue eyes have followed her home. Morning brings no relief as she is thrown once again into the path of the man behind her chaotic thoughts.  Fires will ignite when dreams and reality collide on the back roads of her hometown.  Will she be able to walk away from the fire without getting burned? Or will the flames of this encounter be forever etched into her soul?

I jog out of my small neighborhood onto the busier streets that lead out to a more solitary road, heading for my morning 5-mile jog.

A little bit of traffic passes me here and there. I always look up to see what’s coming toward me, out of self protection mostly, but I like to get a glimpse of other people who are out and about this early and think about what they do or where they might be heading. It makes the run not so long.

Soldiering on, I look up at the sound of a truck coming toward me.

Nice truck.

One of those big, black dually trucks that make me think of a well-built man in tight-fitting jeans and a T-shirt and ball cap, on his way to work at a construction site.

Yum. I giggle to myself.

The truck comes closer, and then starts to pass by me. Looking to see if I’m right about the driver, I catch my breath. It’s those eyes — those blue eyes.

My feet trip up a little as our gazes lock for a split second, and then he’s gone past me. I steady myself and try to even out my breathing.

The brakes squeal to a stop.

Oh my God. Don’t look back. Just keep going and don’t look back.

My legs betray me as they slow to a walking pace. Then they stop. Complete silence is all around me. The world seems to have stopped—just like the truck.

I stand there, facing the opposite direction of the truck, unable to move. After what seems to be a lifetime, the gears grind loudly in the morning quiet. I’m frozen in place, with so many thoughts and feelings scorching my body that thinking straight is impossible. Then the truck is beside me. I just keep staring forward at the road.

Don’t look at him. There’s no way in hell I’m going to look at him.
