Growing up in a cemetery, Ella never wanted much to do with humans. Why would she when she had a plethora of delightful ghosts and ghouls to entertain her. Only problem was, they couldn’t provide physical comfort or fill the empty hole in her heart. Resigned to a life alone, Ella is shocked to discover a boy she once knew has come to the cemetery to find her. The chemistry between them is magical and soon they’re living as a mated pair. Life couldn’t be better until Chuck’s father comes to retrieve him. Chuck it seems isn’t just any male, he’s heir apparent to the werewolf empire. Left alone to bare Chuck’s child, Ella believes she’ll never find true love again but then in steps Henry.

Watching the women he loves die in childbirth is not an option. Sharing his vampire blood is the only thing that will save Ella and Henry does just that. Trying hard to forget Chuck, Ella forms a new life with Henry, and her little girl grows up believing the handsome vampire is her father. Ella couldn’t be happier until Chuck returns to reclaim his mate and the child he never knew she’d carried.

Excerpt

I finished dressing Clara when I heard footsteps start down the stairs of the crypt. I turned expecting to see Henry there. The sun was up, but he could walk about during the day if he wanted to. He needed to make sure the rays of the sun didn’t hit him directly. It took me a moment to recognize the man standing before me. Two years may have changed him, but I couldn’t deny his identity. Stumbling back against the table, I hid Clara behind me. I noticed he was even larger than he’d been the last time I saw him. The eyes he stared at me through were as big, as dark, and as soulful as they’d always been only now they were also filled with what looked like shock, anger, and something animalistic.

“So it’s true?” The man growled.

“Chuck, what are you doing here? How did you get past Rover?”

“A few of my father’s men are entertaining him. Why’d you do it Ella, why’d you take up with that freaking vampire?” Chuck’s voice was filled with a pain I didn’t understand. He’d left me. He’d chosen someone else over me. How dare he stand there now looking hurt and vulnerable?

“Mama,” Clara said from behind me.

“Let me see my child, Ella,” Chuck ordered.

“What, oh you mean Clara? She’s not yours. She’s Henry’s. She belongs to me and Henry not you,” I stated firmly.

“Bullshit. I can smell my scent on her, Ella, so don’t dare stand there and tell me, she’s not mine. Don’t you dare!” Chuck took a menacing step toward me. I backed up until the edge of the table cut into my skin, and then pushed Clara underneath. “Did you know you were pregnant before I left?” He asked in a whisper.

Thrown off guard by his question I answered, “Yes.” The word bounced off the walls of the crypt while I covered my face with my hands and sobbed. “Yes,” I repeated.

“Why didn’t you tell me?”

“You needed to go with your father. I knew you wouldn’t have if I told you. I thought you’d come back to me before I gave birth. At the time, it never even dawned on me, that you might be leaving me for good.”

“You should have told me, Ella. You could have written me about her, but you didn’t. You let that freaking vampire take my daughter from me.”

“It wasn’t like that.”

“Get out of the way, Ella, so I can get my daughter and go.”

“You can’t take her from me.”

“Can’t I? Ella . . . can’t I? You took her from me.”

“It wasn’t like that, and you know it.”

“Whatever. Get her things together, yours too. Unlike you, I wouldn’t think of separating you from your child.”

“You’re taking me too?”

“Yes, Ella, I am. Whether I want to or not. My father said I had to bring you back with me.”

“But I don’t want to go.”

“Tough. We can do this the easy way, or I can make things ugly for you. Think about it for a minute, do you want your daughter, our daughter to see how horrid things can get?”

Desperate, I grabbed Clara’s birth certificate and shoved it at him. Shooting me a disgusted look, Chuck took it from me. “What’s this?”

“It’s Clara’s birth certificate. See, it lists Henry as her father. You and your sire are mistaken.”

“Ella, I’m not stupid. For one thing, the timings not right. The date on here is exactly four months after I left you. I don’t care what kind of metabolism you or the vampire have, it’s impossible to have a baby in only four months. For another thing she smells too much like me, looks too much like me.” Suddenly his angry voice softened as he pointed behind me. “She has my eyes,” Chuck whispered. Turning to where he was pointing, I saw Clara had crawled out from under the table.

“Why’s that man yelling at you, Mama?” She asked as she pointed back at Chuck.

Walking past me, Chuck knelt next to her. I watched as he brushed a piece of hair out of her eyes and said. “I’m your father Clara, your real father. I’m taking you and your mother home with me.” Without saying another word, Chuck picked Clara up, and then headed for the door. Immobilized by grief, I watched as he left with her. Sinking to the floor, I sobbed into my hands until familiar arms lifted me. I didn’t say anything as Chuck carried me from the crypt.
