Dr. Joseph Banner, a twenty-two year old graduate of medical college, has a natural gift for treating hysteria, circa 1878. The only problem is none of his peers in Boston, Massachusetts will offer him an assistantship due to a supposed moral indiscretion on his part. Without obtaining an assistantship he cannot enter the medical field to build a reputation as a competent doctor. Or, so he believes.
The beautiful and affluent Ms. Mary Pyre, a twenty-six year old businesswoman, has heard whispers of Joseph's proficiency in treating the disease. She seeks Joseph out and hires him as the attending physician at her Women's Health and Revitalizing Spa. Though Joseph and Mary are attracted to each other, unfortunate circumstances make them keep their romantic feelings for one another at arm's length. It is only when he learns she needs his expertise to overcome her chronic sexual impotence toward men that their relationship has an opportunity to move forward.

"Take a ride with us!"
Twenty-two year old Joseph Brenner looked up from his sorrowful walk to see this request came from a mid-twenties lady riding in an ornate carriage pulled by four magnificent horses. He straightway saw the face framed in the window looked very comely amidst an explosion of blonde curls cascading from underneath the petite rim of her fashionable, sky-blue ladies hat. The lighthearted smile did not escape his attention, or how the forwardness dancing within the brilliant blue/gray eyes further lent an impression of frivolity. He instantly suspected the woman, due to her privileged station in life when compared to his humble circumstances, must have the intention of hosting some sort of deceit on him. He didn't slow his pace.
"Please ride with us, Dr. Brenner. You would be doing us a great honor."
Joseph almost laughed in derision since he'd only very recently graduated medical college with a degree to practice medicine in the state of Massachusetts. It seemed inappropriate for anyone to address him as 'Dr. Brenner' until he became employed as such. In fact, the sorrow weighing down his soul pertained to him failing to get an assistantship in any renowned doctor's office within the realm of metropolitan Boston. His last remaining hope, Dr. William K. Marlow, had turned him down fifteen minutes ago. Without an assistantship he would have to leave the city to tend country folk like some mediocre graduate from university, which in all honesty, he was not. He'd excelled in all his studies from the very first day of medical school.
"Please. We really do need your assistance." The lady cracked the carriage door a small bit. "It won't hurt you to ride with us. I promise."
"And what kind of assistance are you and your companion seeking?" Joseph asked, never slowing down. He couldn’t help being wary; it wasn't every day some strange woman offered him a ride, especially one of wealth and beauty. And he had yet to see her companion, didn't have any impression of the person.
"Why, we'd like to discuss your expertise in Women's Studies. You are the Dr. Joseph Brenner having recently obtained a degree in Women's Studies?"
"I am he," Joseph replied. "But I have no patience for pranks if that is your game. I'm trudging along on foot this warm June morning because I've spent the very last of my inheritance. I'm two weeks from being thrown out of my apartment. I haven't any job or any prospects for a job on the horizon. So please accost some other unfortunate in my stead."
The woman's countenance turned to shock before it transformed into complete amusement. Suddenly, the most enchanting laughter flowed from her lips. Shaking her head, she said, "You definitely encapsulate everything about modern, 1878 Boston. It's amazing to me you are from the South. If not for your accent, I would think you one of us. I'm Ms. Mary Pyre, by the way. I’m something of a business entrepreneur. So please set aside your concerns about us pranking on you and take a leap of faith. I pledge to deliver you safely home once we have concluded our business."
About the Author
Thomas Briar lives in South Georgia. He strives to exalt the virtues of love and lust in every erotic story he creates, but BDSM within alternative lifestyles is his absolute favorite subject to write about.
